Quick one can you edit the above file with WordPad and then load onto box?

yep!!! you can use notepad too to take out unwanted keys.... you could take out the sexview keys for eg if you had kids in the house and if they were no use to u...

softcams are for different receivers and the dreambox has and uses it's own softcam, i would try finding the dreambox softam and take a look at that one.
a softcam is a file that contains letter and number keys to open the channels i cant see how editing softcams will help you to get to grips with a dreambox. i would look for beginers tutorial for the dreambox, as for the
softcams,they are basicly the same you can change and update the providers keys as they change. once you know which ident they are useing. if you do start editing dreambox or clarke-tech softcams these unlike the technomate softcam contain uk cable keys, and if you post any softcams make sure all cable keys are edited out before you post the softcam, on most forums cable keys etc: can get you banned

I didnt mean to post keys was just using them as an example again sorry.
I know howto edit on dreambox just wanted to clarify how the file was made up.
What is the ; slot 1 mean?
is the first letter & 4 digits the service provider?
the next 2 digits the key number?

the slots or blocks are the sections that the technomate uses
for the various providers and when you see ie: S-V-I-N and the
four digit code that is the provider ident and encryption being use
and 00-01-OC-OD-0E etc: these are the lines the keys must be entered on
