Im just curious as to why it is only Now&Next epg on 28.2e... On 19.2e (and other sats) the epg is much better.. Why cant FTA receivers get the same epg that proper Sly boxes or Freesat receivers get? How is the epg on 28.2e sent out differently to that put out on 19.2e?

It's skys own epg. Boxes like spider/tm some models can download it.

because the likes of sky and freesat pay many millions of pounds in r&d towards their respective EPG's. also depending on your receiver and setup you can get a EPG every bit as good as that from sky.

Thanks, but how is it sent out differently to the epg on 19.2e? What actually is it thats preventing a cheap FTA receiver getting the epg that sky/freesat put out? Is it encrypted? What method do certain non Freesat/Sly receivers employ to be able to get the Sly/Freesat epg?

none sky and freesat receivers need to decode data encrypted with huffman encoding from the epg streams, freesat epg is much simpler to decode than sky epg.

on linux based boxes you can use Crossepg which can download the EPG data directly from the radio channel that sky uk use on their satellite and use that to populate a full 7 day epg if set up correctly.
