Hi all, I'm totally new to the automotive locksmithing world but I'm trying to get a second key programmed for my Astra, I've had a new blade fitted and cut to fit the barrel but because it's a second hand key I have the impression that i'll need to replace the transponder chip inside it with a so called "virgin" chip so it can be reprogrammed to my car. Am I correct in thinking that? And if so where can I buy a "virgin" transponder chip for the key?

Many Thanks
Fool

EDIT: After a bit of research I believe I need a Phillips crypto 2 ID46 chip, is this correct?

Ive been searching around hence how i figured out which chip i needed :) I've looked at a few auto locksmiths websites but none seem to sell an ID46 Vauxhall transponder, are there any companies you can recommend checking? I've also just read that the chip may be physically soldered onto the circuit board, I have ok soldering skills, but will this require a hot air rework station to remove?

Thanks

The Astra-H ID46 chip is integrated on the remote circuitboard, its not a seperate chip, like the Astra-G.
Unless someone says otherwise 2nd hand remote can't be reprogrammed into a different car, its locked to the originating car.
I can generate Corsa-D ID46 chips on my AD900Pro for a non-remote key, but no other Vauxhalls.

Hello,

It has PCF7941(46) intagrated transponder , yes you can put a virgin on instead of used

but you should precode this virgin chip(7941) after put it on board.

i mean putting a virgin transponder is not enough to prepare used remote for programming
