View Full Version : windows XP(SP3) problem

I am experiencing a boot-up problem on XP - it keeps locking. After pressing reset it can boot up normally (sometimes 2or 3 times and occasionally with a FAT table fix screen). Suggested diagnosis is a bad disc sector, however I cannot find An XP version of scandisk on my system. (Nb. the computer in question is standalone with no web access)

It's in control panel->computer management->disk management, right click the disk and somewhere in there - this is from memory I don't have XP installed.

how old is your hard drive ,mine is around 6 yrs and having problems when i scan with a disc it freezes up and was told bad sector on hdd,is it running slow/lagging at all?

Once your in windows, backup any info.

Why are you running a FAT table? you need to reinstal windoze and be have done with it

Run check disk.

Go to the command prompt

Type in "chkdsk C: / r" without the quotes and assuming C: is your system drive
