ECU CKS Error after Mileage on dash Golf 2005

Hi,

A friend mileage on this car - 2005 Golf GTI.

He did just the clocks, but now the engine light has come on and it shows a checksum error in ECU..

Is it because of the mileage in the dash being different?

how can he put it right?

does the car starts??
if it does then just put old dump in the dash
and see if it still has the light on
or you could post you old dump and the miles will
be corrected and the checksum corrected here

I did several 2005 golf gti never had problems, maybe he tried to change milleage in ecu also ?
But you can change dash only should not give any problems.
What tool did he/you use.

happened to me with chinese Vag-tacho have to pull out the odo and work it with upa !
