Hi, I bought off ebay a second hand console that cannot read disc, my idea was to replace the dvd drive from a bricked one that I have. Now that the console is arrived I have found out that the previous owner of the console have bought some games and installed them on the wii- there are a few blocks on the wii menu' with the games- So my question is, if I format will I loose them? I am also going to softmod this wii, so are these game going to give me problems? To be hounest no really bother to keep games, as with a new HDD I will store in there more games. So if I format the wii I will loose the games but I won't find any problems on softmodding? please can you suggest me the best option?
many thanks

What is the system version? The earlier ones you could play burnt discs type in the serial number into Wii Drive Chip Database (http://www.wiidrives.com/list) to see when it was made?
I'm not sure how they have installed games as the Wii memory isn't big enough. In the 3 main USB Loaders it says Install but it only installs to the hard drive not to the Wii memory. You can download the missing games.
There was a thread a while ago asking if they could swap DVD drives as one was duff. It isn't really worth the effort your better of updating to 4.3 and use LetterBomb (http://hackmii.com/2011/08/letterbomb/) then get yourself a big enough mains powered USB hard drive.

The installed games will probably be wiiware games.. If you format the wii memory you will lose them, but does it matter, if you're gonna softmod it then you'll be able download/install whatever wiiware you like, and also play all the proper games from hard disk..
And yea, you dont need a working dvd drive in it to softmod it, and once softmodded, you wont need to use the dvd drive, hard disk all the way..

I never thought about Wiiware games but you can download them again in the Shopping channel.

If you format you will lose the games...If you leave them they shouldn't give you any trouble. Make a note of the game names because if I remember correctly you will be able to go back onto the wii shop and download them again if they have been bought legit as it goes on the recognition of the wii's keys that you get when do nand backup which identifies that particular console as already having paid for the games. But the choice is yours, I would leave them where they are. The only problem you are going to have with them is that wiiware games take up between 10 and 50 mb the wii's memory is only 512 mb so you will be reducing the amount of game saves you can store. Don't forget to delete the existing game saves that are already on it. You can set up partial nand emulation for your game saves using gx but it's not perfect yet, uloader and wiiflow also have nand emulation but also have the cons for each loader as well

Hi, thanks all for the replies, yes I think they are wiiware games because they are not very good at all (I had a little go at them and seem to go back to my old commodore64), I 'll definately format the wii and no bother with them....thanks for your help
