Hello all.

I have a good enough understanding of EWS2 and EWS3 (EWS3D First version, without send/receive module, used on E36 compacts), and I have read the BMW info on them, but I still have more questions.

For EWS2 and EWS3, there is a static ISN in the ECU. The EWS reads and stores this when they are paired.

The EWS is passive, it does not check the ISN, it just transmits its signal, and the ECU then decides to start or not.

For EWS 3.2 (If I am using the right name, I mean the one with rolling codes)
For this system, there is a static ISN and a rolling code table?
To Virginise the ECU, I believe you need to delete the ISN, and when re-installed, if the ECU has no ISN, it will record a new code table.

Is this correct?
I see the EWS virgin ECU files with only a small amount of data changed, so there isn't a code table deleted.

Is it correct to say to virginise an ECU, you need to blank the chassis number and ISN, and the ECU is then assumed to be new?

I'd like to know am I correct in this, and if not, where do the rolling codes and virginising these ECU fit in.

Thanks!
