View Full Version : How to desolder 29F400?

I know it's a basic question, but a newbie has to start somewhere. I have two Magneti Marelli IAW 48P2.76. I need to get a 29F400 from one and put it to the other. I tried to desolder it with hot air, but to no avail - solder melts, but I cannot get the chip from the board. Could someone describe it for me how to remove it (and can I leave the bottom metal part of the case, or should I remove it as well to bare PCB)?
Thanks in advance!

try sliding a feeler gauge under the chip and using it as a lever ,their could be glue under your 29f400 if you dont want to use too much heat it might be worth using chip quik you can order afree sample enough to do few chips
Chip Quik: Easy removal of surface mounted devices (http://chipquik.com/)
scroll to the bottom of page to get sample

Yep, looks like it's glued. Do you know if the glue should let go during heating? Should I get the PCB off the lower case and put it on preheater, or just heating the top should do the job?

More than ten of Magneti Marelli IAW 48P2.xx I removing 29F400 have never found glue underneath, some Bosch does. Possibily your heat gun did not spread heat well enough to cover all. I have a preheater but seems not neccessary to this ECU.
Low melting point lead is useful too.

Hmmm. Would you mind sharing temperature of the air you are using?

For these flashes I use about 380 Celsius degrees, and 5mm nozzle and I never had any problems with desoldering.

Hot air works perfect for 29F400, never had any problem.

I use heat gun on full heat and patience . Never damaged a chip that way .
Wait till chip is well heated and do not try to force lift it .
