Modding PSP 2001

I want to mod my psp 2001 so far i have it updated to 5.03 fw. I tried to do chickhen but that never worked. I know that works on my other psp 2000 but it doesnt :( I read somewhere i need to just flash it custom firmware and i tried but it wouldnt do it.

Can i do it without pandora battery or where can i buy a pandora battery for cheap?

My psp 2001 came originally with firmware in 4 fw and it makes me think that it can be modded with custom firmware right?
