hi i just moved from a virmin area and my new flat has cat5 sockets on the walls all i know is they can be used for internet thats about it what do i need to buy or do and who supplys i.e bt ,virgin,whomever lol ive tried lookin it up on google but just get summat bout connectin it manually but i would av thought if socket are here then they must be connected just not turned on by bt or whomever confused:stupid:

SOUNDS like it may be a simple cat 5 run with wall plates so you can connect one end to router and have pc or whatever other networked equipment in any other room you want, cheaper than homplugs, more reliable than wifi.

ah i think i gets it now so get broadband intalled then plug router into cat5 then it feeds the rest of rooms in appartment is it :top:

yes router will work but u dont need to change the cat 5 and u cant change it
cat 5 will give u full internet speed , cat 6 for gagabit Lan 1000 speed for transfer files from pc to network
