you will have to format it to fat 32
you can do this in main menu>usb menu>diskmanager menu
click ok on format wait untill it's done then turn of tm
when the tm starts up it will take a minute or so and the message pvr ready should come up after the tm read the drive

should work(had it working fine on my 7100 before and that works the same as the 5402) fine you will have to make sure it's formatted to fat 32 or formatted in the usb device manager menu ( i used a 1trb one)and use 1Trb usb powered ones for my 7100+6902 now

Hi. have you tried to record using normal USB stick.? Also could it be your patch? I had similar problem a while back with my TM5400 SUPER. I loaded latest patch and no problems encountered. Regards.

Hi. If USB stick works ok then nothing wrong with the box. Have you tried to copy your channel list to the drive just to see if it writes. When i was having problems i would get message ' USB NOT ATTACHED' although it was attached. If still having problems you can contact TM on 0208 8840701 and i am sure they will give you an answer. Regards.

Hi. You have patch 117 at the moment why dont you try latest patch 118 to see if it works. Have you tried to record a non HD channel? Also worth checking out the TM site for any fixes for your box. Regards.

Ok just to clear up any confusion. I have recorded hd channels on 4 gb usb stick, usb powered 500gb seagate, 80gb old internal in a caddy mains powered and mains powered 1tb iomega. All formatted to fat 32 with easeus partition master, usb stick freezes sometimes but I am putting that down to it being the poor write speed as it cost about 50p. There have been absolutely no glitches or issues with any of the hdd, time shift also works perfectly, I have latest 117 original firmware with 118 phantom patch and 002 addon, so if you can't get your 5402 to record, you are doing something wrong

I concur the above, used numerous size usb/hdd and never an issue.

I seem to have a problem on my 5402HD with the record function
it is OK for a while then I it wont/cant record or playback.
The only way I can get it working again is to turn the receiver off at the main switch on the back and then back on again which seems to reset everything and it works fine again for a while.
This has been like this for some months now and despite loading new tm software the fault still occurs?? any cures please
