odd problem with fault codes in relation to cooling temp sensor, car came in with a nct fault emissions, cause of problem faulty sensor on lambda probe also putting engine management light on.fitted original replacement from dealer and emissions now good but light still comes on,also replaced water housing and stat complete with new sensors and that bloody light still comes on,strangely i noticed when the car was started from cold engine temp says 70 degrees also rad fan runs, faulty rad fan switch.
fault codes read
water coolant temp sensor faulty
lambda probe heater
i would have thought if the heater was not working lambda would be reading high emissions. any more ideas?

Hi
Bit of more info about this car would be easy to help us to reply you...........Like Engine cc, Engine Code, What year it is.........
On newer Audi do have common fault for Radiator Fan to run continuously..........it has a built in module and they do go faulty...........
As for the sensors fault codes.........Have you checked the fuses in Engine Bay fuse box.........

will be getting it back in shortly as i have picked up a rad fan switch, not the screw in type but in similar size to the temp sensor, its a 1.6 a3 think its around 01 ,not had to much time as customer was hanging around waiting on car,i have got the brain bee updated last week so i will see what comes up now.
must get a pen and paper and write down fault codes as my brain is fried, and engine code.

avu engine code, left the paper with the fault codes on toolbox lol, looked at rad fan switch its a 2 wire one and not a 4 wire one as i thought and somebody has rewired it as new cables were added and traced back to battery onto the fuse link and other cable to underside of a grey relay on bulkhead on back,1 wire snipped maybe that was going to fan switch, rad fan comes on after 20 seconds or so even with the new switch.

fault codes are
p1116 lambda probe 1 bank 1 warming
p1116 engine temp incorrect
p1290 coolant liquid temp sensor
the first 2 codes will erase but the 3rd comes back straight away with engine on or off.
when the engine is stopped after a short drive engine light comes back on with all 3 codes again,

P1290 - Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor at radiator outlet (G83)
What is the number of the 2nd code? Can't be P1116, because that's the Oxygen heater.

thats the odd thing it was the same code on both on brain bee
or i am going blind, the sensor in bottom of rad was changed its a 2 wired one but someone has rewired it,maybe incorrectly?or could it have been p116?dont have the book of codes beside me to check.

You are using EOBD/OBD2 mode to read these fault codes?
Then you cannot see the radiator coolant temperature reading itself like the normal coolant temperature.
Try to get your hands on VCDS for this car. Or when you do a lot of VW/Audi's buy it.
Chances are that when somebody rewired sensors, it was rewired wrong or the wrong sensor has been used.
