hi, guys could someone help me with this prob? turned on my dvd recorder last nite only to find that its dead, no power goin to it at all, now i ve only had this recorder about just over a year, i ve took lid off had a look at fuse that seems ok but i have noticed some brown gunge like stuff coming from lookes like the uf 8n v 400 black barral type unit thats located on the pcb, please tell me its not ~~~~ed lol, any help would be great.cheers..chris..

Capacitor failed... Write down all the markings you can see on it, go to Maplins and say "Maplin Man, I want capacitor that matches this" spend a couple of quid at most, then get busy with a soldering iron... Or get somebody else to do it..

word of advice.. dont ask maplins monkey to get it for you.. reserve it online yourself, then collect from store.. in store monkeys have less chance of ~~~~ing that up

Make sure you fit the capacitor right way around, correct polarity matters.
