I might be coming to Scotland in late August and want to know how hard is it for a single golfer to get a time on the old course at St Andrews. Can you show up right before the first tee time or do you need to camp out over night to get a time.

You want to play it? Book in advance.

There's a 48hr ballot system if you don't mind playing in a four ball with people you've never met.
I think if you were to try and book in advance it would have to be for four players, or to cover the cost of four.....but I may be mistaken.
Best to contact them well in advance, where possible.

I went on the website of the Old Course and i seen those methods but it say's if your a single you can't book a tee time you need to see the starter to see if he can fit you in.

Have you phoned them? Would be a good idea to before you might be coming across.

In august you need to take your chances in the ballot early doors but there will be loads of others there especially tourists. Your best bet is to seek out a hotel which guarantees a tee time. Costly but the only sure way.

I know the Old Course has some history but there's better golf to be played elsewhere. Drop a line before you come over and I'll get you a free ticket to a decent course.

Has anyone walked up as a single and got on?
