Just bought a USB to Serial adapter from SLT. It comes with a driver contained in a disc and its written in chinese which I don't understand. Any bros have the driver for USB-Serial Controller? Downloaded tons of PL-2303 drivers but no luck making it work.

Ok, here is my drivers
usb-serial-driver.zipx (http://www.mediafire.com/?olcqnxbocl9aipk)
Install both drivers
Then you need to restart your computer
After restart and fully boot up, plug in your adapter
If after installing drivers, still cannot. Maybe you have bought the wrong adapter

What os are u using? See whether it supports yr os. Normally, at the packaging itself it will write the supported os else need to change if cannot be detected using dreamup.

Guess u got to change the adapter. Find the adapter which are compatible with win 7. Normally, there will be a label for compatibilty on the packaging itself.

Going to try installing Windows 2000 on my vmware since the installation manual talked something about Windows 2000.

i think you bought the wrong one. Its not compatible
Base on my experience, if you install drivers, still cannot detect means wrong chip.
The driver which i gave you is a vista one, but not to worry, it can be used for win 7.

I tell you all these because i bought 5 of these before thinking its all the same because it looks the same. But unfortunately, all cannot work. Now i dont know what to do with it.
Then I go ebay again and source for another supplier, in the product descriptions, it states adapter can be use for FTA and Satellite boxes, so i bought another 3. This time all 3 works.
I see. Could you give me the link to any cheap adapter on ebay? Or could you sell me one :( ?

I wont say that your adapter is totally unusable until you can find a pc or laptop that runs on a Window XP. Might still have chance .. hahhaa
Thats the only chance :)

Saw a pic of the Aten but the serial connector is female right? My box serial port is a female so I need a male connector, will it still work if I buy a female-to-male adapter to use with the Aten?

The ATen adapter is male connection. Your null modem cable is female on both sides. Your receiver box's RS-232 port is male connection. So i dun see why u need to buy any extra connector.

Buying the usb adapter alone wont work, you still need to get a rs232 null modem cable. Only 2 items you need, dont buy anything extra
