View Full Version : Censorship! Do we need to tone it down?

come on mods!
Recently there has been a lot of editing going on concerning myself and thered.
You're killing me and thered by editing our funny posts.
we need to be able to express ourselves, I havent heard of one complaint about jokes that we have made.
Yes, some posts are near the knuckle, but if you shackle us, you take a bit of our souls!
We are an outlet for the frustrations of daily life, people log on to digital kaos, and with our humour, we take their minds off the drudgery of the real world!
Denizens of DK I ask you!
Should we be censored this way?!

I do have a good laugh with you shady! BUT certain subjects should never be joked about because there are happening on a daily basis in real life!
My point is censorship is a good idea and should be used :)

yes, but its satire.

poignant post from nige on a different thread, but relevant i think to this.
"You know what these guys are like, if you don't like them then don't listen to them. Would you watch a slasher movie or a hardcore ~~~~o if if was not your taste, no you wouldn't..."

i personally like your posts but then again i have an attitude that if its a joke its a joke and lets face it all jokes are aimed at someone else misfortune ie(lanxman having a clio)lol
BUT not all people these near the cuff remarks and or jokes are aimed at(or just browsing and reading threads)have the same sense of humour and could be offended!!!!
so the mods/admin have to censor as they seem fit for the good of the whole forum.
the other option is to ask admin for an adult section for these type of threads!!!
ps i think you and red are hilarious
pss but i also often notice people getting pished/offended by them!!!

Maybe an adult humour section is the way to go ? or is that a step too far??

im afraid i dont agree that we should get censored this way. if we get censored because we may upset somebody, then we may as well censor everything on here.
for instance. what if witchy's avatar of a doll, reminded me of a time in a police station when i had to show on a doll where a man touched me?
should he be made to change the avatar?
what if i was the crystal palace fan that cantona kung fu'd?
should cantona7 have his picture censored?
i could go on, but hopefully you see my point
lfc4life
23rd January, 2009, 01:46 PM
well censorship is there for a reason and its up too the mods to decide what needs too be censored!
But talking about abuse jokes is just wrong!!!

The mods will censor the forum as they see fit.
Rude words are sensored automatically by the forum.
We're not asking you to tone down your personality but have consideration for other members on the forum.

ok df, hows about what cantona suggested, an adult section where near the knuckle jokes/post can be made with no fear of reprisals?
cantona7
23rd January, 2009, 01:50 PM
now you see i find your reply hilarious but not everyone has a sense of humour like mine!!!
lets face it most of the mods have a good sense of humour and they would not sensor if they did not think it was for the good of the forum(they probably laugh at some of what they sensor)
that is why they are mods to "MODERATE"

im afraid i dont agree that we should get censored this way. if we get censored because we may upset somebody, then we may as well censor everything on here.Life is censored! Nothing new here!
There won't be an adult section, there's no need for it. This is an adult forum, just use common sense.
P.S. has anyone noticed the auto-refresh? There's a lot of people veiwing and replying to this thread, don't refresh your browser..you'll see...

Shit happens in the world. this will always be the case. as will the fact that while bad shit happens, people will make jokes about it. it was a mere 20 minutes after the twin towers were attacked that i had jokes rolling in to me.
a joke may only be funny to one or two people and offend everybody else but that doesn't take anything away from the fact that a joke is a joke. simple as that.

I'm always up for a laugh but forums absolutely must be properlly moderated, without it we end up with all sorts of trouble when someone takes offence at a joke/statement and things spiral downwards.
The moderators do a tough job, it's not easy trying to keep everyone happy and enforce the rules at the same time - it's mostly a thankless task.

On a personal note.
I enjoy a laugh as you all know!
I think restraint should perhaps be shown in certain areas.
Some people find certain subjects very offensive.
Lets just take paedophilia as an example:-
I think a lot of members with children would not like to see references condoning or encouraging paedophiles even if it was a joke.

what are you on lol we didnt want to be mods so we could sensor people i just wanted to be a mod so i could change peoples posts into humerous anecdotes
for instance next time lfc was babbling on in his inimitable way about liverpool i could change his post to something more constructive like
tell you what lads i luv a bit of c**k in the afty anyone feel the same
or i wish i looked like thered and liverpool are 5hite
as you can see modding should be fun not a sensorship freedom of speech and all that polava
what about adding a little section for if easily offended do not look then they have no one to blame but themselves for looking and i bet they still do lol
anyways thats my lot and lfc4life i know you get angry and im sorry if i upset you but i love you really you are like my sid little

TBH I would also like to see a section where people could post their rants and opinions and rip the piss outta each other and maybe post the odd ~~~~ picture ;).
It would still be moderated but the rules would be more laxed than the rest of the forum and perhaps it could only be accessed via a password gotten from Admin/Mods.
This way no visitors to the site would be offended.
Just a suggestion.

how about a blog section on members profile page. member can rant and rage and post whatever they please. if people don't like it then they do not have to visit that page

AFAIK this forum was started mainly as a dreambox forum and has grown enormously. Its core is still dreambox but admin have given you lots of other stuff, like general, mp3s, downloads, videos, streaming, live scores and loads of other sections.
I think the forum is fine and the mods are lenient...let them mod without giving them grief for editing a tiny amount of things.
There has to be some sort of censorship...if not then anyone could post anything they like and the forum could be in trouble or lose members.
Be thankful for what you have.

the censoring certainly needs revising for this reason alone.
one of my poems uses the word prck as in 'prck with a pin' but prck was edited out automatically as a rude word but yet i use the word 'bollocks' on many of my posts without any problems.
what's that all about?
cantona7

no probs just ask df to automatically censor b*ll*cks too
problem sorted!!!!

personaly i belive the edits are not to harsh and are required in this day and age as humour that is very close to bieng offencive and could be seen as somthing else .
i know the homofobic stuff is upsetting ss deaply but he wont come out of his closet to have a good girly cry.
no seriously you dont have to use naughty words to be funny if you take 2 min and think of an alternitive you might find there be a better class of banter .
but i understand shady's point to meny people in the world take offence easly these days . and people are always to quick to get on the pc band wagon.
but thats a problem with the world not the forum .
