View Full Version : Issues moving a motor...

Hey guys
Got a new install a couple of weeks back but having serious issues.
Here's my setup:
1 Metre dish
Smart Titanium Single LNB
Alsat Dark Superior Motor
Openbox S11 (Genuine)
TBS6925 PC Card
I'm just having problems moving the damn motor. Sometimes it moves, sometimes it doesn't. Originally thought it was the TBS card but that has moved the motor a few times.
Tried USALS and just trying to manually drive it east/west from the PC but not much joy.
So I got an OpenBox S11. Similar issues, I've got it to move a few times using USALS.
I don't think the installer (who I now realise is a cowboy / prize tosser) tracked the arc properly. I added Hispasat (30w) to the Openbox and told it to drive there. It went West alright.... to Astra 4!
Apart from the tracking being out (I've someone coming to see about it this week), what can be causing the intermittent moving?
I have heard someone with a similar issue with the Dark Superior, said he replaced it with a Supreme instead and all issues went away. Could it be the motor?
Don't think it's the cable as I don't get any signal degradation / breakup.
LNB? Surely not?
Any advice you could give would be cool as :)
Thanks dudes
Maj

That would be me mate who advised you on the other forum about the supreme LED, like i said there i have had a couple in the past week and both have had faults and worked intermittently.
I assume you got sorted by contacting Rick over there to come and have a look for you. As you say if the Openbox is original then it sounds like a motor fault and also maybe alignment.

Oh hi mate... Cool, you've confirmed it's the Supreme.
Others have said it could be the OpenBox but it is a genuine box and also the TBS card is having trouble driving it as well.
Struggled to get hold of Rick and I've been deep in conversation with the guy I originally wanted to do the install so he's coming round tomorrow. I do think it's the motor though.

Its a shame you did not get back earlier on this thread as i was around your way today doing a job i could have called and had a look at it for you.
Never mind at least your getting it sorted either way

Well my installer didn't make it out yesterday due to it pissing it down but came today.
Managed to move the motor using the buttons on the motor... Sometimes!
Actually managed to drive it east / west with the Openbox.... Sometimes!
End of a 2 hour session, we definitely came to the conclusion the motor is the issue! Ordered a Supreme LED motor which will be here tomorrow but it's unlikely I won't get that fitted until Wednesday next week now.
This is proper frustrating, but at least it's nice to know where the issue lies... (Or it better do!) hehe :)
What did you replace yours with mate?

I a,ways use the Dark Motor superior out of say the last 10 that had no problems i just had bad luck with 2 of them thats all i would still recommend the Superior as the Supreme is identical just a different colour and has an LED display on the top.
Now if you want a real motor then out of the diseqc ones it would have to be STAB 100 or 120 and then on to the big boys superjack actuators

Well today my Supreme motor was installed and happy to say all is well.... With the Openbox anyway!
Still can't drive the motor with the TBS card but this proves it was the motor previously.
Hopefully new drivers from TBS will sort out the Diseqc issue.
