View Full Version : Duo clone and motor problems

Got a Duo clone from Aspleys about 6 weeks ago which has been ok with a fixed dish on 28E and a dual feed 80cm on the other tuner, running BH 1.7.3.

( did have early problem with sticking fan similar to another post - had to flick it to start it but replaced it with one from a hdd cooler powered by sata cable)

Anyway this week I've motorised my 80 cm dish using a supreme dark motor. Alignment seems fine getting decent signals on all the sats I would expect to receive from 45E to 30W. Usals set up I'm sure is fine.

Sometimes when changing satellites I totally lose signal although the dish appears to be moving ok. Manually adjusting dish via menu doesnt help so I reboot and all is fine until the next time.

At other times I have been zapping through a particular sat and go to a channel but get no picture or sound despite channel being fta and good signal. When this happens all channels go the same way even on tuner 1 via the fixed dish on 28E.
Strange one here when this happened last night I tried to rescan 10818 v on 28E and got channels from 11223 v !!
Again a reboot fixes this until the next time (only a full reboot works, restarting enigma doesnt work).

Reluctant to reflash unless the image is the problem as I've spent a lot of time setting it up as i want it but its been fine until I motorised the second dish.

Anyone got any ideas before I contact the dealer?

How have you got usals set up , try taking the fixed dish out of equasion. I have mine set up with tuner a simple , positioner and tuner b as second cable of motorise lnb. Then see if you get same problem .

I have tuner A simple single sat 28E,
tuner B simple, positioner.
Just tried it your way and got same problem.
I've also tried connecting the motor to my old dm800 and thats been fine all afternoon.
From some motor issues I've been reading about elsewhere I'm suspecting that the underlying issue is the psu.

You could be right , I had to return my first one with simular problem plus the box would hang on boot up either on the red light or starting screen . I was sent a replacement which so far as worked floorlessly

Thankfully I bought from UK and with credit card so if it is a hardware problem it should get sorted.

Just to rule out any other problems do you currently have a Hard Drive fitted in the Duo if so try disconnecting first and then try driving your motor again if it works then its more than likely a PSU problem and it cannot handle the power load for both the HD and Motor at the same time.

Thanks for the tip.
Yes I do have a HDD fitted.
Will have a play around with it unplugged when I get chance tonight.

Yes I also found that when I disconnected the harddrive , I did not have the problems. So inway proved it was power supply problem.

What type of HDD do you guys have? Reason I ask is that I've read somewhere that using a laptop drive, which obviously draws less power can help.

Well,
tried it without the hard drive and dish wasnt even moving at first.
Used satfinder to move it (read this tip somewhere else) then it started moving automatically again.
Zapped around a bit and was ok. Then did a scan on 12.5w.
All ok but a few channels missing so tried manual scan of the missing frequencies .After it was finished....no signal on any channel on tuner 2.Switched to tuner 1 and all channels showing 99% snr but no picture.
Rebooted and all ok again for the moment.

Talked to Aspleys by email today, he's asked me to take a look on the Ferrari forum and I can find posts there from guys with the same issues but no solutions. Theories range from psu problems, driver issues, problems due to the anti-clone detection ,etc. Most of the guys who have issues seem to be motorised, I'm guessing a lot of buyers just use the box as a sky+ substitute so never encounter these issues?
Not sure what to do next, Aspleys have offered to repair or replace if I cant sort it but its beginning to look to me a bit like an underlying issue with the product or is it just pot luck with the quality of individual boxes?

i think that you may have a faulty box and as you say it is pot luck with these at the moment. not much consolation but mine worked perfect on a motorised dish so no complaints here.

my advice would be to take aspleys up on his offer of a replacement as i doubt you will get this to work how it should

Will certainly look to exchange the box as a minimum but getting tempted to try for a refund and go for an original.
Reading the issues some owners have on the Ferrari forums would put me off getting another clone unless it was really cheap. Just glad I didn't buy from China.
