Hi, I have a problem with a Mack Granit with e7 engine. Engine don't start and when I monitor the engine rpm in vmack it travel from 0 to 150 all the time. The problem sound like engine position sensor but I don't know if there is a cam and a cranck sensor or only one of these. I found a sensor in right front of engine near fuel priming pump but I don't know if there is the sensor who give rpm on monitor.Anybody can help me with that?

ENGINE POSITION (EP) SENSOR
The Engine Position (EP) Sensor is located in the
front face of the timing gear cover. It uses
magnetic induction to generate a pulsed electrical
signal. It senses the passage of seven (7) timing
holes on the face of the cam gear. Six of the
holes correspond to the phasing of the electronic
unit injectors, while the seventh hole indicates the
top dead center position.

ENGINE SPEED (RPM/TDC) SENSOR
The Engine Speed (RPM/TDC) Sensor uses
magnetic induction to generate a pulsed electrical
signal. When the flywheel ring gear teeth pass
close to the sensor, electric pulses result.
The Engine Speed Sensor also indicates when
the crankshaft is at the top dead center position.
The sensor does this by recognizing two
;missing; teeth on the ring gear which correspond
to top dead center.

i had the same problem. the engine will run on just one sensor. so if one goes bad or disconnected the engine will still run and set a code. that was my issue also with rpm
droping out and truck would not start. had to replace ecm. it worked for me

After talking the great master, hard to talk the learner, but sometimes gives good results cleaning the sensors

check unit=pumps make sure one is not shorted to ground if so unit-pump and ecm gone you can repair ecm.
