View Full Version : Feeling attracted to a TM800HD... But why ?

ITS A SCAM !

I am looking out for a new HD box to replace the family's spiderbox HD7000. I think the box is due for replacement as its getting on a bit now, and it does suffer from needing a few reboots every week. Also i get moaned at because of its poor EPG. Apart from that its ok, and i am sure it will come in useful at my mates house.
Ever since the TM800HD was released i have liked the look of it, although i am not too sure about its HW capability .. lol
Right now you can get one of these brand new for about ?120-?140, and after doing some reading i get the impression that for a single satellite box with HD recording, it is a ok box ... but what about the EPG ?? The whole objective is to provide a working maintainence free EPG thats the family can use, and for me to get a bargain. Is the EPG on the TM800HD any good ? or will i be wasting my time and money on a box that i know is not that well supported ? Remember its only for 28.2 east with EPG and some recording.... Your opinions count ( as always ) ;)

If I where you I would look elsewhere, I have a tm800 sat in my lounge now and its running fine, but its only in the lounge as my tm-twin and dm800 original have been shipped abroad. There have been no updates on the 800hd for a year (i think) and doubt there will be, you can get a clone dreambox 800hd that have been tested and have loads of support for the same money, of you could just spend a little more and go for a vu uno ect. ps this is nothing against tm just this box, i bought the tm-twin after this one.

i agree with ki, the tm800hd has been a farse from day one and i wouldnt have one given me... tm have lost alot of loyal customers over the 800 and it will take alot of time and reliable vfm products for them to regain their fanbase. i say go with a dm800hdse clone if you want internal drive capabilitys or a vu solo clone with ext hardrive running coolmans ect and you wont be dissappointed. i put a clone solo in my bosses house on a fixed dish running coolmans and picons ect and its flawless... best ?120 ive ever spent for a linux clone, regards mdt

I do already have Original VU+ solo that i mess about with, and that is in the same room as the spiderbox. If i get another VU+ solo, the remote controls will affect each other 's boxes, thats why i have not gone down that route. Can i change the frequency of the solo's ? I have asked this question before buy its not been made clear enough.

a different option is a blade bm7000s , no clash of remotes, recording by usb and 7 day epg easy update on a portal channel

Yes ... That is a very strong option. i am doing a bit of research about this box and it seems to be exacly what the family need, as long as the EPg works with no messing about it looks like a winner ... Cheapest i have seen it for is ?140 - ?150, anyone seen it cheaper elsewhere ?

Just my opinion but the Blade7000 is AOK for a beginner starting out but the EPG sucks big time as it does on the TM5402HD, you will be taking a step backwards from a linux receiver to a closed source machine and more than likely will regret it after you realise not only the EPG but other functions of a linux receiver, the Blade is just not in the same category.

Dont get me wrong i think its a cracking box with a superb sensitive tuner but it just cant compete with linux.

Thanks for your input Digicon, but you are the 1st person i have seen that says the EPG is poor. I do already own E1 & E2 based machines, and a Debian server ... so i don't really want another box to play with. Also i will have the old spiderbox HD7000 to use for blind scanning etc if i replace it. All the new box is going to be used for is the family to watch all their rubbish on....lol But i take on board your experience and comments .... Cheers :)

Not really ... personally i dont like Dreambox range of STB's. I have had them in the past, and i have flashed a few as well. They just don't appeal to me anymore. I suppose i am just wanting to try as many different makes of STB possible.

I may have been a little harsh with my comments on the EPG what i meant was its probably poor in relation to what is available on an E2 machine with the likes of the EPG of the Vix image and the same with Coolmans guide i just think the frontend on those two look a lot slicker than what is available on the blade and 5402.

Dont get me wrong like i said the Blade does have its merits i own a DrHD F15 which is made in the same factory as the Blade and 5402 but has a few more features over those 2 that are more relevant for my purposes ie: Weak/fringe reception. I am just not keen on how the EPG looks and feels on those types of receivers.

How good are the EPG's available with E2 machines ? I suppose i should really try the EPG plug in on my VU+ solo ! As i only use this for HD football i never really play with it ... i usually use a TM600 for myself. I must have a look tonight and see whats available ... Cheers

Thats from the BH image using Coolmans, the Vix image Guide is also worthy of a mention as well as thats pretty impressive just depends on which image your using as they are both customisable to how they look which is somehting which is lacking from a closed source receiver.

Another thing to consider is that coolman has now decided to make his cooltv plugin payware as of v6 onwards, so if you use any of those versions it's going to cost you almost 10 euro to get a unlock code from him for the supposedly premium version.
