2.0 TDI CR VAG turbo actuator setup procedure

Hi, does anyone have any info on setting up the turbo actuator on the 2.0 CR TDI? We have done one recently, but we're getting a lot of smoke and knocking under hard acceleration from say 1200rpm. Low throttle at low revs or hard at 2000 and higher feels all good. Just wondering whether there is anything tricky in the procedure or whether it is more of an EGR issue. thanks

Friend authorized services have tool for adjusting the turbo actuator. allegedly without this tool can not be set new turbo actuator
