Go here (http://global.dlink.com.sg/site_pdtpdfs/DIR-412/DIR-412_3GList.pdf) for a list of supported modems on the DIR-412.

The al720 doesn't seem to be supported as of firmware version 1.08. Version 1.10 has added more modems and the latest is v1.11 (http://www.dlink.com.my/support/support_detail.asp?idProduct=438)
