Lo there.
having issues with crossepg running on BH 1.7.6
Got the crossepg setup via the configuration panel to autodownload the epg every morning at about 4:30am.
Its set to download to the USB pendrive attached to the pack of the unit.
I have checked the mounts and the USB is seen.
If I force a manual epg download via the menu it populates the EPG OK, but it is either not getting downloaded every night, OR the box is not looking at the USB for the EPG. I'm not sure which it is.
When I check the weeks ahead EPG a few days after the manual download was done the EPG has not been updated.
Also if the box reboots (manually or via crash) then the EPG list is empty. This leads me to think it is not using the EPG on the USB, but in fact is refering a copy loaded to the flash memory on the motherboard.
What am I missing here??

You say you have checked the mounts and usb is seen. Is the path set up correctly?

Seems to be. Checked the mountpoints a few times now.
HDD and USB are both listed
Without the mounts in place I don't believe you get the option to select usb in the crossepg config panel.

How do you have Crossepg setup for use as in do you have both rytec servers and opentv setup or just open tv or just rytec.
The EPG does load to flash memory thats normal, the USB is just used to store the EPG on a permanent basis but it actually does go to flash when you reboot, i assume you ahave the force epg eload on boot ticked if so then its doing its job.
If your using Rytec servers and doing it for Multi-Sat just to let you know Rytecs servers can be a little flaky at times as in they can be working and sometimes can be offline.

Thanks for the clarity on the reboot looking at Flash, that explains that.
On your prev advise m8 I just have stopped using the Rytec servers, just one Opentv server selected for the UK Sly stuff.
Yep I have "Force EPG load on boot" selected but it does not seem to make a blind bit of difference.

It could be a USB problem as OpenTv as you know downloads form the Sky EPG transponder and as you say if you do a manual download it is working.
Just to clarify even if you do a manual download onto USB for the EPG to be seen by the box you need to do a reboot so that the EPG then loads onto the Ram as this is where it is stored while the box is running.
It maybe worth a try and setup Crossepg again from scratch and also delete the EPG folder on your USB incase that has become corrupt.
I cant help you with the Download Automatically part as i do mine manually every few days, Also not everyone has the same image setup and Plugins running as each other.
All i can say is i have BH 1.7.6 on my Uno and its been trouble free from when i loaded it on a good few weeks ago, but like i said i dont have the same setup with the Autodownload.
You could also have a look at EPGimport which is another plugin used by the boys on the Dreambox never tried it myself but it may work for you over crossepg.

Thanks, and I'll check this out later mate.
BTW your "Just to clarify bit above" for me I "think" it loads the file to the USB as I can see via "file manager". Also the EPG has entries in it.. This all goes after a reboot though. So maybe as you say I have either corrupt EPG folder or a problem with my pendrive.

Are you sure your mountpoints are OK. In the past I could see the contents of the USB and HDD via telnet and the file manager on TSPanel, but the mountpoints weren't setup correctly.
Think mountpoints are set via the blue button IIRC.
You could also try reformatting USB via the menus and then checking the mounts again.

The EPG will always be stored on what ever device you determine in the Crossepg settings either USB,Hard Drive etc.. but the EPG always gets thrown into the RAM this is where the box reads the EPG info from and not directly from the USB itself

I've decided to turn off crossEPG as its flaky IMHO - at least with this OS. I had it setup to download to the USB and every now and then it reverts back to the internal flash.
Exactly the same circumstance as as decribed here:
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f205/crossepg-keeps-reverting-internal-flash-256995/
I am also getting the out of memory crashes as described here.
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f193/device-manager-crashes-my-vu-duo-277094/
( note - I don't really want to setup a swapfile here as suggetsed in the thread as its hiding the issue as a workaround rather than dealing with root cause)
Bizarrly despite having mapped my HDD and USB several times I had a look yesterday and they were unmapped again. Somehow the maps are getting dropped and its reverting to default. Its then running out of avail memory probably due to EPG stuff loaded down to the internal flash.
All a bit bizzare really.
Have now disabled Crossepg autodownload config and using the EPG downloader config built into the BH image (via blue button panel IIRC)
Don't know what code its using (is it also CrossEPG??) but will keep an eye on how well it works.
Also will keep an eye on what is causing the loss of mounts. At this point I have no way of knowing how these mounts are getting lost. Could the revert-to-default epg download to internal flash be a cause of the issue???

Have you thought perhaps trying a different image, I cannot compare any more as i dont have a duo but even my clone did not suffer the symptoms your describing although i only manually downloaded my EPG so never encountered a problem.
You could try the Vix image as its a lot more slimmer than the BH one, Having BH 1.7.6 on my Uno i have yet still to encounter any kind of problem relating to the EPG.
Bet you wish now you had gone for the Uno. LOL

Ooh you do like twisting that knife don't you?
Happy with the Duo most of the time. You can't put me off her that easy. :p
So when you say slimmer, whats the comparative memory sizes BH vs Vix. Happy to try it for a laugh.
TBH I don't think this is memory flash size issue anyway. Surely mount tables are built into the Linux configs as they are with UNIX. Running out of memory and crashing/rebooting should just lead to the mounts to be reinitiated on boot. Don't understand how they can be 'lost'.
BTW, out of curiosity, why manually download the EPG when you can get it updated for 'free' via the configs. Whats the reasoning here??

I know the image size is a lot slimmer RD will be able to give you the Rundown on it properly. Just thought it might be worth a try and see if it cures the memory issues, another alternative is to turn some of the Background processes off see if that helps.
Like anything else always make a full backup so you can return to your original config if you dont like it.
To be honest after BH1.7.3 they started putting all this expanding and changing Universe crap into blackhole which swamps it even more, Maybe try an older image as well.
