Have you tried mounting it in the HDD options ?
What media are you trying to playback m8 ?

thats where the error throws up when i try in hdd/set up/initialise and vix/mount/manager.

hdd drive is blank at the moment, transfer onto it when i get this working

in mount manger displaying as

mount:none
device:/dev/sdb1
type :unavailable

Have you tried it in a different usb slot m8 ?, different cable also ?

If you cannot get it working m8, I would disconnect the internal hard drive, then hook up the external, mount it/format it, then try yer media file, then if it works connect the internal HD back up.
Maybe RD or Digicon will have a better suggestion for you :-)

In HDD option use your remote to move options left/right see if it brings up yer external, might be under usb ?

under initialisation it shows both internal and external then i get the error when i do that , under filesystemcheck the ext gives error

error:filesystem(and not swapor ufsor something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an altenate superblock:
e2fsck-b 8193 <device>

not sure but but hdd option left/right?
at system/harddisk/harddisksetup?
