can anyone help my wife has dropped a cloth on my ceramic hob which has left a deposit on the hob any ideas how to remove t have tried jiff etc but no luck.

only use something that is meant for use on that surface.
HOB BRITE
or another item i use is a h20 mop x5 very handy for loads of cleaning jobs.

A hob scraper (if allowed by hob maker) will get 'most' crap off - it is is basically a razor blade in a holder, it will slice most debris off easily, and if the blade is new it wont scratch the surface (as the blade ends are tapered and safe) BUT a worn and battered blade CAN scratch as each nick in the blade will have two sharp edges - so always use with care!
