Sorry to be a pain here, but I am clueless on this sort of thing.

I recently moved into a new house, and with the house it already has a motorised dish and a technomate 6900 HD combo box in there. But the thing is, I haven't really got a clue about it. Can someone just give me a few basic pointers about it? Like what can it do, what do I need to do (I'm good with comps, and after some reading I need software patches for it?) and even if it's worth me using?

As I said, I'm clueless on this sort of thing, so any advice would be a good thing.

Thanks.

You are so lucky..
All you need to do is turn the receiver on, press the satellite button on the remote and go down to astra2 28.2e..then see if you get a picture if you do the dish is still aligned and working..
Then to see if the old owner was dodgy press the satellite button and go to 1west digitv..then go to a channel like sport klub ro, croatia or discovery..then press mute and then exit on your remote..if a window pops up with keys then all you have to do is find a usb stick, download the latest softcam from the sticky here put it on your box and your away..lots of free tv..
Does the box have any thing in the card or cam slot behind the flip down?

The quality on it seems ok. The odd channel drops into the red, but mostly they work. A lot of stuff comes up scrambled though.

Nothing soft modded from the looks of things either. Nothing in either slot, and nothing happens when I press those keys.

Do I need the card, or does the USB stick do everything?

Only really interested in the football, I don't watch any normal TV since I download it all.

Edit.

Small bit of extra info. It's currently on software version 6.55 (August 22nd or something similar). If that helps at all anyway.

hi m8,
when you turn the box on do you get the free to air channels open? also on the remote you will see a sat button, press it and you should see a list of satellites set in the receiver menu, if you scroll to anouther satellite
and click>ok does the dish move and the free to air chns open? if all this is working and the dish finds all the sats on the list then everything is working, you might post what sats are on the list and do the fta chns open on all the sats.next exit the receiver menu. and press menu and go to system information on the list and click>ok and post what information is on the list when you press menu etc you could be asked to enter pin number unless it's been changed it's [0 0 0 0] then once i know what software and satellites etc: i can help you further

OK, I'll try my best (as I said, I'm useless with this Sat stuff).

OK, firstly, yes the dish moves and I can pick up FTA channels on other sats. Not sure on exactly how many (I assume it's just the ones already programmed in?).

I've check a few sats (Thor, Astra, Horbird as examples) and I get at least half the channels on each, either fta or scrambled.

And looking at the sys info, it says 6.55 Aug 22nd, firmware and boot version 1.

It's a t/m 6900 HD super combo (along those lines as far as I can tell).

Also, checked the box and there's a receipt saying that someone from a sat company came and aligned it, so I guess that side of things is alright.

If you need any other info just ask, and I cannot thank you enough for helping.

Ok then, after more reading of forums, I'm still a tad confused. As far as I can tell, I need to update my 6900 box to firmware 6.57 (the higher ones don't suport softcam or something like that) then use the softcam keys on here?

I've also seen a darkman patch mentioned a lot, do I need anything with that?

If I've asked anything I shouldn't have, just tell me and I'll happily delete it. I'm not really worried about getting encrypted channels, but I would like it to be working as best it could.

hi m8
your not asking anything you should'nt and to get the
best from this receiver for a start the receiver needs the
latest patch from 18/1/09 and if needed the latest sofrcam loading
for this you need either a null modem cable or a
memory stick to load these softwares do you have
either of these items?

hi m8,
first you need to download this patch and take it out of the zipped folder
and then transfer the patch file to your memory stick. look here for the
patch:-- http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f75/technomate-tm6000-series-patch-27875/

[there are two patches only use the one for your model]
once you have downloaded the patch and made sure it;s out of the folder and then transfered to the memory stick you put the stick in the usb port thats under the front flap on the receiver then turn the box on and on the remote click the usb button and go to data transfer and click>ok now you will see a small panel with the patch highlighted on it, just click>ok again
and the patch will load when it's loaded the receiver will re-boot turn off
and on again and the chns will open remove the stick you are now patched
next click the sat button and go to thor 1w satellite and the patch will open
lots of chns from digi-tv look for chns like hallmark, hbo.nova sport etc:
there is about 150 chns in nagra encryption the patch opens if the chns
hav'nt been set in a good order then you might have to flick though to
find the chns that open, if they dont open post back you might need the softcam,

Right, got all that, just one more stupid question before I try.

That says do not use that patch on a super version, which I currently have. Should I use that one as advised, or is it a different one I need?

Just got to say well done to you, often people think we are always right but a small mistake here by benny would have caused your box trouble if you hadnt read it and used it..
Remember sometimes we can make mistakes too!

Thanks again, couldn't have worked better really. Patched it, jumped onto Thor and loads of scrambled channels now open, so assuming it worked.

Any other advice you'd like to give I'd be willing to listen.

Goes back over thread and thanks posters :D

thats good that your chns are open on thor1w
if you have sirus 4.8 on your sat list there are a few chns open on this sat and a few like rai and a few others on hotbird 13e and a few on astra 19e and thats about all the patch is opening since a lot of the providers have changed encryptions and now we dont have keys to get them open at this time, thats why a lot of the technomate users have a diablo cam this gives lots of extra channels that the patch cant open on four other satellites 16e.9e.1w.8w. 16e and 1w satellites having the most open like digialb on 16e and canal+nordic on 1w this is great if you like football, film
cartoon, discovery and animal planet chn and adult chns plus lots of HD chns if you check the other satellites some have free to air HD chns and if you have a sky freeview card you will get chn4 HD you can also get itv and bbc HD on
astra 28e these are free to air you will soon see whats there when you have a check on all the sats on your list

A cam is the thing which there is a slot for behind the flap.. One costs around 145 with a programmer but thats nothing because you got all your stuff free..
But first wait a week and get the hang of the sat game..then make your choice about a cam..
