Broken sky+ hd box

Hi guys
My sisters sky box is broken and she has got a new one but the old one had some important program's on it. If I remove the old hdd copy the files to my pc then remove the new hdd and copy the files to that will they work on the new box.
Hope you understand what I mean not very good at explaining

I dont have a sky box, but is it possible to just put the old HDD into the new sky box ??

Not looked at it but I think the new box has a bigger hdd
