Hi all,

I'm brand new to XBoxes - my last console was a SNES lol - but it's my littlun's 1st birthday soon and I've decided bloody daddy deserves a present more than he does the miserable teething bundle of misery, so I'm buying one and want to mod it to play backups obviously.

Using stickies here and elsewhere I've successfully got a cable DBOX and sat cardsharing up and running so I don't need spoon-feeding info, but as I say I'm completely green when it comes to console mods so could I just get a few basic answers please so I don't make an expensive mistake.

There are all sorts of 360 variants at Cash Converter, from ?90 to ?150 or so. Is there any model I should specifically avoid as harder / impossible to mod or can all of them be done? Is there an easiest console to mod and can you tell that without opening it up? If not, is there any reason to buy anything other than the cheapest 360 in the shop when all I want to do is play backups off disc or better yet off an external HD?

Playing online really doesn't appeal... Albeit a colleague in America *endlessly bangs on* about how brilliant Borderlands is so I might have to get it, get good at it and shoot him in the back. So my modded console will ideally be safe to go online, but that isn't mandatory.

If some kind soul could start me off I'd be very grateful, then I'll get reading. Thanks :)

S

Drive flash will allow you to play backups possibly without the need for sodlering. If you want to play from HDD or External HDD then you will need to RGH your console (reset glitch hack) and will require soldering.

Phat xbox - Drive flash easier
Slim xbox - Tougher (could require replacement PCB)

RGH Side would have to be below a certain dash to enable RGH also HDMI version also.

Extra tools might be required like CK3 or X360 or Cool runner, all depends on what you buy and want to do in regards to hack it

Brilliant matey TY. Drive flash (whatever that is, will get reading :D) sounds fab if I don't have to solder, was dreading that - I wouldn't use a plug I'd wired let alone plug something into the mains I've buggered with the innards of. And playing games from HD is out then - n'er mind.

So I'll go shopping for a Phat XBox (that's a machine that'll be fatter than the rest on the shelf..? Which also means it's older..? I don't imagine MS's models getting fatter over the years they're not wives).

Not heard of any of the terms "CK3 or X360 or Cool runner", I'll get reading. Thanks a million.

Let us know what you get. Ck3 is used to power a dad drive without the xbox. X360 is a usb device that allows your drive to be seen by jingleflasher

No need to read up on cool runner if your not going down rgh route as it's a glitch board
