View Full Version : vauxhall dti diesel pump help

Hi all, my mates vectra 2.2 dti just died a few days ago while trying to bleed the injectors after cleaning out the inlet manifold.
I have fitted countless diesel pumps and edc's to these dti engines but this one has got me a bit baffled. We were bleeding the injectors, started coming through nicely, started to fire up then died, filled the fuel filter housing up and tried again but didnt want to know, didnt take another drop of diesel from the housing.....i checked the operation of the stop solenoid with opcom and that is working fine.
Anyway, i replaced the edc and both solenoids with a known working unit and its still exactly the same as it was, still not taking a drop of diesel from the filter housing.
Im going to replace the entire pump today so fingers crossed that will work.
Ive heard of mechanical failures with these pumps but never actually had this myself......could this be one??

What year & engine code? we normally try to gravity feed filter with seperate fuel supply before changing complete pump! I pressume you have checked it for fault codes. Were there any sign of metal filings in fuel filter housing

Its a 2000 x reg y22dtr, there was p1651 when it initially stopped but after changing the edc theres nothing, but no fuel being taken from the filter housing. Ive tried allsorts today and still no joy.
No metal filings in the filter, pickup from the tank fine, all fuel lines clear......got my head done in. Even tried changing the ecu kit!!
I replaced the mechanical side of the pump today and used the known good edc and still the same, got me well stumped. Theres even 20 litres of diesel in the tank so its not like its low and sucking air from there.

Have you checked if there is no any blocked filter in the Banjo Bolts which could stop fuel to pass through or the Banjo Bolt it self could be blocked with some dirty particles..............

p1651 is no communication from fuel pump control module; faulty module or wiring are your exact symptoms.Time to start doubting yourself! Known good? What about testing module you removed?Have you looked inside either of those modules. Have you checked pin data? What did you mean by both solenoids?

The edc i replaced the original one with has just been away to be repaired and came with a guarantee, thinking that could be faulty but that doesnt explain why there is no fuel at all coming through from the filter housing.
Havnt checked the banjo bolts, will do that 2moro.
Havnt looked inside either of the edc's as the company i send them to wont repair them if theyve been opened.
Theres literally no fault codes stored now........

OK its hard to know without all the details, some of the pump modules burn out really bad to the point they cant be repaired, you will need to check pin data to ecu, its possible the fpump module has damaged the ecu or there is a break in the wiring to ecu. I think on this system ecu switches to fp module which switches to pump without the active signals in this circuit fuel is not drawn from tank, which maybe why you have no fuel lift!
What solenoids were you reffering too?
What make is your fuel pump?

For reference who is it?
Under the circumstances, *TRY*
Open fuel cap, piece of rag, airline MAX 7 PSI, stand on one leg, face north west, pressureise fuel tank, to force diesel through.
You NEED an inline hand primer, stick this on the return to suck back the diesel, also leak off pipes can suck air in.
not sure 100%, but there's some kind of butt plug, on the lumpy stick end mating surface, that can leak hair.
