Trying to make a break out cable to flash ECM's. I made hots and grounds on a cig lighter plug in. But, I get a red fault code on my USB link. Do I need to go straight to battery? Also, there are 3 hots, 2 grounds, and 2 data to flash a 70 pin, correct?

Thanks so much.

I have done this before by connecting the hot and ground directly to battery, and use the 1708 communication wires to do the flashing.

You will need a plug to set up the communication wire and the hot and ground for the communication adapter.
