because vm need to register modems to work on their lines. one house per modem. they wont let you, depending on old modem model, i suppose you could put dd-wrt on it

when you get a new modem does the old one get de-registered? as i had the old one set up with them for about 2 years prior to the super hub

They all use the "MAC Address" to activate the modem so as long as it's active it will work. Why don't you just get a router ? Make sure you don't have the same IP address both pieces equipment.

i have 2 routers spare which vm gave me to use over the past 3 years which i have used, if i tell you the problem you are more likely to understand what i need.
my super hub is obv wireless but i dont get a strong enough signal in my bedroom so i am hoping to put another router upstairs so i can get a strong enough signal.

I am no expert but would you not be able to put the super hub into modem mode only and use the old routers to connect as before (this is assuming your set up before super hub was modem to router)
hope this may help

have you changed the super hub to modem only because i find the wifi to be rubish, then connect the router to the super hub and get a range extender for upstairs which will connect to the router and give you your wifi.

if you have had a broadband speed increase above 20 Mb then the older modem will not be able to handle it also some time in the future vm are supposed to be doubling the broadband speeds.

check the routers if they have the wds feature so you can use both; one will be the main router and the other one will repeat the signal of the first one and set the second one close to your bedroom

Why don't you join the 2 routers using home plugs. Then the upstairs router just acts as a switch with WiFi.
I have my virgin media hib as modem only that supplies my dreytek which supplies my homepages which supplies a wireless n router in loft room. This gives le a WiFi coverage over 3 floors. I split them into network 1 and 2.
