Hello, as the title states I am new to this but this is certainly something I want to get in to.

I think it best if I tell you what I would like to do and if you(since everyone of you know more than me about this) can tell me if and how this is possible.

So basically I have researched a little on the options and it seems Dreambox is the most popular. I would like to receive satellite TV but not pay Sky fees. I will move into a new home soon and don't wish to take Sky.

So now onto my questions. Can I simply plug a Sky satellite into a Dreambox receiver and receive free channels?

If I don't have a Sky satellite in my new home, can I simply put it up myself and easily find the correct direction to point it?

Do I have to get some kind of card which helps me to receive the channels I would like?(UK channels)

I apologise if these question have been answered, which undoubtedly they have but since I am so new to this, I thought it best if I could receive answers to simple questions I have first, before I delve in further.

No....Not that easy and to be honest either way you go you will be paying a subscription of some sort.

Yes it is not to difficult and there are how to's on the forum to show you how to do it or post up for additional help.

You could do it that way but you might as well subscribe to Sly, you may also want to look up CS / Sealion, and before you ask that topic can not be discussed on this forum, google is your friend by the way.

No worries we are all here to help and point peeps in the right direction......

Thank you for your prompt response. Ok, so I'm pretty safe with putting my own dish up, buying that and the receiver won't be the problem(choosing the correct one's may be) but then my problem is how to view the channels. I have typed both of the things you mentioned into Google and all I get are pictures of fat sealions and Credit Suisse and Counterstrike etc. Ha... Anyhow, since you're unable to talk about it on the forum, I can see where you're coming from, so will try to delve a bit further on that.

Again, thanks for your help, it's all about taking in information, at the moment.

its worth bearing in mind you will get freesat channels in the uk from a sly dish pointed at 28.2e

presumably its the scrambled channels you want, but clearly the only legal method for that is a sly subscription

so the "naughty" way is a sea lion , which is cs as mentioned above, which usually still means paying a sub, to somebody, for something "extra"

you will never get it for free, unless you just want freesat which is free 24/7

the point here is everybody would like what you want, but its never that easy, is it ?

good luck
