Have read around but this I think is "slightly different"

I sent this V2 box out with a 2.3 vix and he said it kept rebooting so I said send it back as it is new. (he did not know it's a clone)

He likes to play and I am almost 100% he has put vix 3 on it as it just sticks on starting.

I have tried (a month ago) various clonesafe images and all take fine but stick when rebooted.

have tried a kernel flash plus a cfe_cfe_auto.bin and got nowhere and he is on my case so will have to retry and get it going.

Anyone have a clue how to unbrick a box with a bomb in the flash please

thanks

You sold a clone box to someone thinking they were buying an original box ?
Do the decent thing give the guy a refund !!
It's probably a paper weight now.

Of course he can have a refund

The point I was making was I sold it to him and he did not even know clones existed (and I charged him ?120 which I paid for it because he is a mate) that is why I suspect he flashed vix 3 on it.

I want help not an ethics lesson

Have you tried flashing it via the front and rear usb's ?, did he have a hard drive fitted in it, did he have an external hard drive hooked up to it ?, have you tried switching the power supply ?

I'm a clone hater, hence my reply :-)

There is no such thing as a clone bomb for the Vu+ clones and never will be. nor is there now or ever has there been any form of clone bomb in any vix image.

Do you have a red light with starting on box and are you reflashing older image with everything disconnected?

EDIT:
Really weird this, tried 5 times so far and by accident left a pen drive in rear of box, put one
in front and is now flashing, I suspect same loop will happen will advise in a bit)
================================================== =================

yes I am mate

power & various pen drives tried in front slot & both rear slots, still just the rear light.

I did at one point get it to flash late last night, then stuck on starting so rebooted, now it's back to red light.

The bomb I referred to is the later vix, they apparently do screw up clone's so IS a bomb, there was even a thread
a few months ago over at W. of S. about how they are going to screw up the clones with their new images, must try and dig it up.

Ummm, no. There is no bomb! How does Ruberduck know this? Because he's a a teamvix member. Yes, that's right. He is part of the team that develop and put the image out.
Wos are known clone haters, and their sponsor sells originals so they would obviously try discourage people from buying clones.
I have a clone which I tried to flash with vix 2.4 build later than 155.
It too got stuck on starting and only required a reflash of an older image and all was fine.

As most should know it's when you flash the wrong bootloader that bricks the box. Usually a clone will not flash latest image {Although there are a few that have managed with older drivers} When it doesn't work you just reflash older image back on. Was your red light on when stuck in starting septic?

Can't remember to be honest. I think so.
Just trying to prove that there is no bomb as I've been there, and only required reflash with an older image.
I reckon it's something else. Maybe wrong bootloader, as you mentioned.
maybe a power issue or a blown cap?

Yes as a lot of us have learned if you can break it usually you can fix it with a little help. Just not in extreme cases. lol

Your talking out of your arse pal, and please do dig up this thread you refer to.

for your information the latest ViX image contains nothing more than the latest hardware drivers as issued by Vu them selves. if Vu decide to code their drivers so they dont work on clones thats their business but to say that ViX have a clone bomb is fictitious, a down-rite lie and i'm pretty certain i could also sue you for defamation and slander if i so choose to.

Obviously I am wrong, I therefore apologise wholeheartedly.

To me the vix images are the best I have used so am pleased the people who work so hard on those images are not putting anything "extra" in them.

I did read that somewhere and it did refer to w of s, obviously I have got it completely wrong though.

Will when I get time have a mooch about to find that info just for my own reference.

thanks for putting the issue straight

it makes you wonder is it this the op has read

Dear partners and Customers,
Vu+, unarguably the leading supplier of Linux based set top box, works relentlessly to make sure the utmost quality that you expect us to achieve. This has been the integral part of the whole operations in developing and manufacturing. However, we recently learned that a clone of Vu+ SOLO could now be traded through illegal transaction routes from China. In responding to this grave situation, we assure you that we will take all possible legal measures to ensure that such pirated copies of Vu+ products be not traded freely. Furthermore, we have already begun a technical process via which to upgrade the algorithm of system security implemented in all Vu+ products soon. When this upgrade is put into place, no pirated copies of Vu+ products will work. While we sincerely ask for your unilateral support in dealing with this serious matter, let us state the following aspects so that you can inform those who might be interested in Vu+ clones.

1.No software update will be possible.
2.The hardware stability of clone is very questionable.
3.No repair support will be offered for clone boxes.
