Hi,

I have been asked occasionally to flash d-boxes and starview 7s.

Only done a couple and don't really want to get involved with that side of things.

I am thinking of getting one myself but get the feeling that vermin media (read that elsewhere lol) is just playing catch up and my hunch is that cable isn't the way to go.

Can anyone give me any pointers of what to go for I am a bit of a linux / pc guru but definitely a sat / cable noob.

I like the idea of getting a sat receiver for the PC but its what the best solution is out there. What would you go for?

Stuart.

redlines/icecrypts/blade/openbox/dreambox(fiddly but best)
so many to choose from BUT you need a motorised dish
so thats ?200 before you start....then box, ?50-?250
then a sea lion. its SO worth doing tho mate. & on this forum people will always help, just be polite & youll reap the benefits

Just looking at your profile I noticed you had an icecrypt is that because the dreambox came after? Also its not just a simple matter of pointing to sky and getting around ni-ag-gra ?

To be honest its the missus who wants sky atlantic, I have a aversion to TV apart from the odd documentary and occasional film.

I am not bothered about every channel going but I guess thats why a motorised is it also possible static?

Stuart.

I guess the PC idea isn't possible as it would be great to put all the media together. I will have a read about the forum and if you or anybody has anything else to add please do.

its not n*gra you have to worry about, its n d s !

have a read of this I posted last week

http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f11/new-sat-setup-301108/

obviously you can stick with a static sly dish on 28e and n d s , or a multi satellite option like 13e + 19e + 28e for instance, or go motorised like many do when they get a taste

if you are into linux, then get a linux box - no question

so maybe a linux based dreambox or a vu or a clarketech may suit you

for simplicity its the usual suspects of eagle/openbox/spider/blade

I Would like to set up on the sat side but would like a definitive nod towards which sat box I should choose. Any suggestions would be much appreciated thank you.

I dont know why youre being pointed towards a motorized dish. A normal sky dish will be fine for sky channels, and that for than enough for the majority of people. It will cost you ?20 or ?40-50 if you get someone else to put it up for you.

Then youll need a receiver, id suggest either openbox/blade/dreambox. Depending on your budget, what you want from it, and how much time you want to spend tinkering. If its for the misses, id suggest the blade, very easy to use and has an epg. But you obviously need to look into that and weigh it up :)

And finally access to a server, for everything on skyuk you can get a year for approx ?60.
