Hi
I would say he need to be sure what Cable supplier, tw, c&w etc in his area before doing a scan, if still no sly1 try a factory reset, then a scan. Are you both using the same image?

i heard a rumour that some older 500c's have trouble picking up sly one because the tuner doesn't work well with lower frequency transponders which are what sly one uses
if the box says "switch service could not be found" or something along those lines that is a problem to do with the roms and decryption of the signal but im guessing by you only mentioning sly one that other channels clear fine?

Another thing you can try is to get the sly1 freq off a working box by going to menu>info>stream info... once youve got the freq, back on your mates box hit manual scan and type in the working freq you got from the other box then tick the Inv. box.. see if it locks and syncs then scan it
Some tuners wont pick up few channels even when you know its freq, but I done the above on a mates box after I heard someone on here talking about ticking that Inv box and it locked the missing freqs and got the channels

what signal do you get with sly one? should be at least 95%

Almost certainly a signal problem. Try a decent booster and will almost certainly pickup.
