Hi
I tried to remove a sp08 from a sprinter ecu with hot air, i managed to remove this chip which was potted/glued, but after testing, it showed that the ecu has been destroyed, so a little warning to you all.

Someone suggested to cut all the legs off, then remove, but im looking for a chemicall solution, please write here different ways, thnx in advance.

some chips just arent designed to be removed and you will destroy the pcb everytime you try it. Done this a few times aswell, we all have. Airbag computers can be a pain in the ass as they love covering them in that red tar shit which runs under the chip and holds it down like fresh concrete on a new road.

Hi
I went to one of these electronic repair companies and they showed me the board on the big screen, he said the way they remove these potted ones, is by cutting all the legs off carefully, then they remove the chip, but then this process makes it difficult to read the chip in an adapter, if you get my meaning, so i thought it might be a chemical solution somewhere, thnx.

lift pin by pin with soldering iron, then rotate the chip.

There is a chemical solution, pretty sure there is a post in the ECU section about it. Quite a few months back.

I first suck solder with solder suck pump ... then I lift all pins with soldering iron (like smayer sayed) ... then I heat up with hot air 200?C and grab the chip with tweezers and twist it

The so called "chemical solution" is toluol (seen it from a brazilian ecu company once)

I've tried it but i had two problems:
- Toluol vapors very easily so you have to be there all the time and add more and more
- All it does is making the "glue" a lil bit soft so you can remove it easily

Note that there is a video that shows someone putting the whole ecu in toluol, and getting it out (after some hours) completly cleared!!!! I couldn't achieve this myself.....

Thnx guys, i think twisting solution makes sence, i will try it next time, the problem is to know which ic is potted/glued, i can say 9508 on sprinter, and most toyota immo eeproms, maybe we can compile a list.

is toluol same stuff as toluene
we used to use toluene as an octane booster in fuel
its very casnogenic
causes cancer
