I need Mercedes expert opinion in solving this particularly common problem in Mercedes vehicles. DTCs 0060; 0064 and for the right side too. The codes mean that there is a continuous camshaft adjustment (LEFT), incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft (P0025) and continuous camshaft adjustment (RIGHT), incorrect position of exhaust camshaft. It may also occur on the intake camshaft. How is this solved?

Try this:

Cause

Scoring on the piston due to dirt entering leads to stiffness/seizing of the solenoid plunger.

and/or

Vehicles up to engine number - engine 272: 2729xx 30 895140; engine 273: 2739xx 30 236360
The sealing ring of the camshaft adjustment solenoid is no longer providing an adequate seal.

Vehicles up to engine number - engine 272: 2729xx 31 618975; engine 273: 2739xx 30 385272
The sealing ring of the camshaft adjuster position sensor is no longer providing an adequate seal.

Remedy

Replace the problem camshaft adjustment solenoid if the fault has resulted in activation of the engine diagnosis warning lamp (if the fault code has only been stored and has not resulted in activation of the engine diagnosis warning lamp, do not replace the solenoid).
The piston in the new camshaft adjustment solenoid has a nitrided surface to prevent seizing.

A software update of the engine control unit software is not required.

If the camshaft adjustment solenoid is only leaking (no fault code stored) and the engine number is within the number range up to engine number - engine 272: 2729xx 30 895140; engine 273: 2739xx 30 236360, then only replace the O-ring.

In the case of any leakage at the camshaft adjustment solenoid up to engine number - engine 272: 2729xx 31 618975; engine 273: 2739xx 30 385272, the O-ring of the camshaft adjustment position sensor nearest to the camshaft adjustment solenoid must also be replaced.

Hi,
Try to relearn camshafts with star diagnosis. If learning procces fail you have a problem with balance shaft (ring gear is worn)

I have actually replaced the Solenoids , the four of them with brand new and still have the dtcs, i will look at Star as per the relearning process but you may further help if you have the procedure or tell how to locate it faster.

If you have only this DTC 0060, 0064 try to relearn as Bazil advice. You can find the procedure in Star.

If you have other DTC, please post.

Also if you have a very small video camera try to inspect the balance shaft.

Hi,
Open control unit adaptation, open adaptation after engine replacemen and run.Engine must to be cold. If procedure failed replace the ring gear.
