Hi all,

My girlfriend has a BMW 1 series E87 which has the red steering wheel light on the dash. It has been on before and was reset by a garage and was fine for around a year.

My dad has a garage and has a few different diagnostic machines (snap-on modus, launch plus another one I can't remember) which won't remove the code (A116) or light. I've spent hours and hours reading about INPA and DIS and how they may do it by resetting the CAS & ELV so decided to take the plunge. I've managed to get INPA installed and working but I've gave up with DIS after weeks of trying.

Is it possible for me to do what I need to with this software? I can enter the CAS module ok but the only reset option I can see in there is "reset ECU". My dad seems to think this may wipe the module which I obviously don't want!!

Can anyone help me out or maybe point me in the right direction?

I could just take it back to the place where it was reset before but I'd rather learn and sort it out myself

Many thanks.

if the steering lock light is yellow check battery/alternator then usually a ecu update fixes the problem, the vehicle has the red light on (if its red usually the steering is locked and wont undo, ours unlocks ok which is against the grain so to speak) and after checking battery/alternator usually a new steering column and ecu update is required.

if the steers stuck locked.. just bang a bit against the wheel, a lot people workd that out this way.

usually a CAS update makes it work. dont be affraid to reset the CAS, it will not lock.

Also as you have INPA you should have NCS expert. read the cas module maybe we can decode that light out

The light is definately red and has been for probably 3 months or so now yet the car starts every time and the steering lock always comes off fine. I'm just a bit weary of her getting stranded somewhere if it does lock.

Are you sure selecting "ecu reset" won't wipe the CAS?

Also I do have NCS expert but I haven't got a clue how to use it. Is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks for the reply by the way.

Hi,

could someone help me, please? My car does not start (E87). I have got a yellow elv fault. I tried to reset it with ispa, but it does not work. Please check the pictures.

Does anyone have any idea what is the problem?

Problem is ELV. If you can not reset it with Ista or Dis, you have to change elv or buy emulator.
