RANGE ROVER 1999 MODEL REMOTE PROGRAMMING

Hi
I have a Range rover 4.6,1999 model and the remote(grey with 2 buttons) no longer works for some reason.
How do i re-program the old remote control? I have replaced the battries in the remote but when i try to crank it says ENGINE DISABLED PRESS REMOTE on the desh screen,what and how do i get it to start again.

Second part 1999 is a bit confusing,put key into the ignition ???????????then what,turn it on?leave key in the ignition,or as soon as the key is in the ignition all is good?i have tried putting the key in the ignition turn it on and try to crank and i get engine disabled,press remote.

u can turn immo off if u have code till u find out wots wrong
