usually when clutch start to go u lose power to overtake as engine over revs,or when u rest foot on pedal clutch release
bearing brakes up and u get a mad grinding sound when pressing pedal.

I only got them results as the clutch went flat to the floor and it was officialy broken but before that the only signs were when i was setting off in first - it would judder and also i couldn't hold the biting point-other than that-it 'dropped' without any signs??

As you have not given year there is also a chance dual mass flywheel is fitted this could have failed you may be recommended to change flywheel as well. Go for a solid replacement.

If its a dual mass flywheel, its going to be expensive...
