I was just wondering if the DDigital plus box is an opensource box or not, And also what is the diference between an open source box and one that is not, pro's cons etc.

Its just that i heard someone talking about open source boxes and was wondering what they are.

Thanks.

I believe the DDigital box is not open source.

Open source means that you are not at the mercy of the software developers, waiting for updates. Boxes such as DBox and Dreambox run open source code. In their case its either Neutrino or Enigma. Open source boxes have the potential to be reprogrammed, moddified by anyone if they understand the code.

Going forward, with the rumoured changes which are being made to Uk cable, the open source boxes are mopre likely to be of use than the closed source boxes.
