Hi,

I hope someone can help with my symptoms. My VU+ DUO works fine but when switched off and on via the power switch at back (due to channels suddenly going blank) it keeps looping on 'starting' then VU DUO then starting again. it looks like the fan is trying to start but it doesnt. However, if I power it down for over an hour, i can get it to start. The fan seems like its struggling but it works. So know i leave the box on 24/7 unless the channels disappear.
I have heard of power supply fault, is this what it is? Can someone help me diagnose my problem. I am handy with soldering iron etc but dont know where to start.
I have tried flashing black hole images from scratch but running 1.7.4 right now. This is a clone box by the way. Thanks for any help.I have attached a picture of the main board and the components next to the fan power cable. Does that look dodgy. The power supply board also looks like its coated with some yellow stuff...is that right?

Dell_XPS has already suggested that it may be the fan. My question is that if I turn the box on for lets say a couple of mins (after being switched off for an hour) and then turn it off, it still fails to start unless i turn it off for an hour. This does not seem like overheating issue as the box has been cooled for an hour. I have even left it off overnight and switched it on for a couple of mins and then off only to have the same problem again. Any ideas?

sounds like similar symptoms i had on a clone dm800 and the power supply was at fault in that case.

I see. What did you do to rectify it?

Here is a picture of my power supply board. It has a lot of yellow stuff on it. Is that normal?

It takes time for the board to discharge power so when you switch it on faulty electrical current will stay for a while. So unless you have testing equipment best option is replace board as wilf says.

This might help

Vu Duo Psu/Pcb ohms measurements of the power connector.
Different situations to determine where the problem might be.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I can see you have an attachment but for some reason i cannot click on it. I am logged in. Can you provide the link of this ohms measurement?
