I had an 2002 bmw e46 316ti in today with a dead abs/asr module. Customer supplied a second hand unit. I fitted the customers abs unit and this cleared my abs light and allowed me to communicate with the abs ecu through obd, however I had a fault for the steering angle sensor no initialization.

So obviously I thought thats handy just calibrate it as normal. However I cannot initialize the steering angle sensor, I keep getting errors such as "unexpected response from control unit"

I have been doing a bit of googling and I am getting the feeling that I need to somehow code the new abs module. Does anyone know if the abs module has to be synched to the vehicle?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bad news for me but at least I know what job I have to do tomorrow. What tool did you use to code, I assume GT1 or OPPS?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Koziolek. I will try and get my hands on NCS expert as soon as possible.

Actually does anyone know where I could download the software and drivers?

Thanks

Edit:

For anyone with similar problems or an interest in NCS expert this is a good thread with a few handy pdfs http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f152/bmw-ncs-expert-manual-179793/
