Replace freesat hdd?

I plan to replace the hdd in my humax freesat box. The plan is to replace it with the 40gb hdd from my ps3. If I do, will the sat box format it, or will I have to use another method to format it?

The box should ask you to format it when you switch it back on afterwards.
