Hi all .
Today i get really big problems with one bmw e60 3.0D 218h.p EDC16C31 - the problem is i try to read it with
-Kess v2 clone - can't read it OBD i don't know why - read the file on k - line on bmw e60 218 h.p but show me error and say read it with protokol 159 with protocol 159 for 520D - make perfect ID on the ecu SW and HW number 1mb file but the read file is corrupt - only 000 bites - i don't have install "microsoft visual c++" 2005 on the laptop.
-Galleto 2 v52 - can't read it OBD the same - just can't read it show error - even dont show the ecu ID
-Mpps 12 original - read it on OBD but the file is not fine the same corruppted.
Please can you give me a hint how to read this ecu - i am really confused .
If someone have idea or the what i need to do please help cause the customer wait .....

P.S. Pay attention to the image. The device is sold together with segger and

genius and kess/trasdata and ktag are the same tool, the first kess2/ktag coming up with box and packaging marked dimsport...the only difference are that genius have touchscreen and kess2 dont have it...one have graphics and FW dimsport and the other alientech

KessV2 and New Genius are a common project from Alientech and Dimsport. I think you see "new genius" word just because it has the display. If you look the dump you can see the Word Alien System ;-)

Same crap version. Nothing new. "New" is included j-link programmer. Its for programming kess again and again before counter is full... What a joke from seller!

The ktag can do BDM better then Kess v2 - cause it have it and can do edc17&med17 like kess v2 - it's not better then kess v2 but have one important thing - bdm witch i nice when your flash go ....... and you need to revive the ecu :D :D :D .
I have the kess v2 & k-tag and have a moment when the k-tag is really ,really helpful .

One more thing - did someone have problem to read bmw ec16c31/edc16c34 by obd , cause i try few times but no luck whit it i try edc16cp34 VW crafter - and read it - but don't try write it cause i am not 100% sure did i miss something or have some bug whit my unit . The mystery is MPPS v12 ori. even can't read it on bdm not problem but why on obd have this problem .

i heard it have offline update on the kess v2 clone to 1.94 but i am not sure how to update it .
I have the all files for the offline update install software , and SD card files for a copy after update it , but i never try cause i need this device almost every day and i can't give a try only to see .

Fit a virgin chip and flash by JTAG, this chip don't get locked, I have it and all works well. Once your tokens are finished, just flash again.

What we need now is an update of firmware which works ok.

I not see this advertises for kess v2 clone V1.99 and i don't know are it exist like real 1.99 on kess v2 clone . On the Original kess v2 yes at this moment is 1.99 i thing or newer .
For kess v2 clone whit V1.89 i know i have 1.94 update and i have it but i am not sure are it work , and if work - what is better from 1.89 and are is deserve to update it , if have new car's only and we can't use the - not have point to make it this update .
For unlocking and no token - ok have a solution now ,but for v1.99 this will be great if have it not only on project ,and if someone use it on clone Kess v2. let share with us.

Guys please can someone make the pecture or show where i can find the k-line on the kess v2 lone pcb cause i thing maybe i have problem there and i am not sure are is soldered right .The reason is cause today i have some problem whit ecu over k-line , and other over can - work , and after that other over k-line work (i only try to read them o test are it have this problem), but sometime not work over k-line . It will be very helpful if you post where is to find the k-line and all connected whit it.

You can get both a preprogrammed chip, or you can find a virgin chip and JFlash and program it yourself.

Hi mans. I have bough a kess v2 and arrived yesterday... I tried with an hyundai i30 edc16c39.. it speends to much time giving id... after that i cant read it... tried in 206 iaw 48p2. also the same but in this case no id info gave... i changed the content of sdcard and used the 1.94 soft from this thread.. now the interface didnt work anyway. i have jlink etc... also doesnt matter if i use the kess connected to the car or not.. with 1.94 it says these info ...

If you want to use V1.94 you need to use the software version for 1.94 and sdcard files for 1.94 to work , but you will have new cars protocols but is not sure are they work cause someone says it's need firmware update - i am not sure .
And i have problems - to read edc16c31 and edc16c34 on bmw , i not try to read yet edc16c39 , but successfully i write edc16c9 on opel astra H 1.9 cdti - can't read it whit Kess v2 clone but write it perfect ( i read it whit galleto v53) ,
i don't know whit Kess v2 clone work so wrong on edc16 ecus , maybe have something wrong but i can't find it . Let someone else say if his Kess v2 clone 1.89 work nice on edc16 to fine the solution for that .

If the components of the clone and equal to 'original KESSv2 just make up the MCU in 2478 NPX a KESSv2 original and weld it on the clone, so you will have' an original KESSv2 that can 'upgrade?

Yes this is the right answer - i have it the same when i change the mcu - and i didn't soldering all fine - and after that the same error . Check everything - are is solder fine .

has anyone experienced External exception EEFFACE error? I bought a brand new clone (aslo K-Tag, that works fine). It is the "no tokens limitation" Kess V2. I tried to reflash the MCU with J-link (successfull), but the problem still remains.

I've the same problem, the issue still there, I've no idea what's wrong with, obviously there it's something wrong reading the card, but I changed it for another clone and still no works.
If somebody have any idea would be great.
Chinese people now are in Holliday until the 6th of February, so I wait to them.

Can I solve this issue ?
I needed to use MPPS again and last week the bloody MPPS kill an ECU and need to use jtag to recover it.

Yes EDC15C2 to be concrete, those vans use that ECU in the 1.9 turbo Diesel engine
This ECU can be done very easy with galletto 12xx( I can't remember the correct number, the very cheap cable )
The original Kess does those ECUs easily.
And I did a lot Renaults with the Kess v2 clone without problems, it's just those ECU models.

I never use my kess v2 on edc15 and i can't say how it work but i can try tomorrow , but when i have edc15 i use galleto 2 or MPPS v12 ori or Galleto 1260 they are stable on this ecus .
At this moment my kess v2 fail me only on bwm e60 530D whit edc16c31/c35 - only there . He read and right 1.3 multi jet - perfect , read/write edc16cp34 perfect , write 1.7 and 1.9 cdti on Opel perfect (can't read it but i have galleto 2 ) , on edc17 after some mods - work pretty fine and stable .

FGtech v54 EU clone is very nice tool - is really stable and working over bdm , tricore ,pcr2.1 unlock and others , and very important - support trucks .
I choose eu clone and i not regret for this it deserve all money .

I already have ktag and bdm100. Ktag works fine that is why i was thinking of buying a kess v2 but i see on other forums that they give a lot of problems.
fgtech v54 mini has better price, but full galleto supports trucks like you said.

k-line problems and edc16 readouts. Edc16 is not a problem for me because i have other tools.
In this forum I read that the only problems were counter and boot mode tricore. Now they are all solved.

I agree with you, now I've 2 Kess v2 clone, 1 Kess v2 original master (just bought it, to solve problems with edc15,16 and someone else), now I'm looking forward a good galletto v54 eu clone, my old v51 have not jtag and it's not very good by BDM, so I need an upgrade.
If somebody know where can I buy one unit with the most BDM, cables, etc. Please send me a pm
Also I'm looking for a good BDM frame, no plastic.

Any news about kess v2 ? a good seller ? i won to buy kess v2, but i need to buy a quality clone!

The Chinese' ones I think are all the same crap or similar quality, but there're cheap and works in 98% of the ECUs of the list and it's very stable, so apart the no very good quality on the components, it's a good option for start.
I've 2 units, one it's working now after some fixes and the other one don't work yet, I've no rush, have the original one, I use the clone for tricore, because the new Kess the tricore option it's not longer available, they change this option for ktag.

Hi i have a Kess V2 and i am not very happy with this tool.

Now, the software not open, appear External error EEFFACE. I try to program the NXP, reinstall the software and install in a other PC without good result.

When the software work, i had problems with bootloader tricore ecus, not work.

With a EDC17CP14 TP2 (obd) when finish the read, appear Checksum Error

I used only three times this tool, with chevrolet, and work good by OBD (EDC16C39) but now not work.

I'm crazy with the EEFFACE error, i don't understad.

Any idea??

1 That's the version you'll need to use, the files on the sd card are done for that version, careful using other version, your device can be damage if have an upgrade.
2 All versions of sd card are the same, it's just to fix a problem with tricore, no more cars available with.

I don't think just moving the software and create a shortcut solve that problem.

Yes the kess v2 clone have own problems :
1-tokens - solved
2-edc17 read/write - solved
3-yes it have problem whit edc16- readout and my one have them can't read Opel astra H 1.9 and 1.7 cdti EDC16 (read them by galleto 2) but the kess v2 write them very fast and nice . I test it on few edc15 to read them but few times i have problem and i give up cause i have 3 tools for edc15 and edc16 and they are stable . Really have some issue whit edc15 and edc16 but for clone work pretty good compared whit other clone tools .
If you choose kess v2 you will not be disappoint and k-tag is good yes they are clone but work very well .
For me k-tag + kess v2 + Fgtech galleto v54 eu clone is all what you need to be sure to all be fine and you will be able to chip all car , truck ,motorcycle and you can trust on them and if you kill some of the ecu you will be able to revive it over .

Hi all I by my kess v2 and k-tag from aliexprex they are all the same don't have differents.
Now I have a big qustion are someone try to read mazda 5 2.0 denso ecu via obd with keas v2 I don't have piasini and need to make dpf but I don't know are the kess v2 clone or galleto 2 can read/write over obd or bdm with galleto I don't trust on k-tag for denso ecus I know that from my frineds.

I've the same problem and I needed to send back the device to Hong Kong to be repaired, mine never work, I've another one and after several discussions with the supplier they told me send us the device back.
Now I received an email saying the device was repaired and them sent to me again , now I'm waiting to receive it.
Sorry for the bad news, I ask what was the fault, but in the offices have no idea, when I have the device in my hands I'll open it to have a look if I can see some signal from where was the fail, the chip worked fine because I could flash it with no problems at all.
At the mid time I bought another clone, but at the end I did decided to buy the original one, I know is really expensive, but hopefully I've enough customers to pay it and now the version is 2.03 or 2.04 I'm not really sure.
The clones can't do some ECUs like edc15 and some edc16 which is a big problem for me.

Welcome. A lot of people have this problem. Returning devices do not solve it permanently. Sooner or later the fault returns. My device also did not work even once. KTAG works so I can eliminate software. Fault lies with the device. Regards. Thanx for help

If you speak for K-tag doesn't meter witch seller all of k-tag clones are make by one company .If you gonna by k-tag just look for the seller with good reiting and you will be ok .

If somebody in London area interested in a Kess v2 clone, I just receive one that was a faulty unit but they sent me a new one, I check it and now work as all the clones from china.
I sell it, because have another clone plus the original, so I don't need it.

I would like to ask for your help if possible.
I saw a post (http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f173/kess-v2-clone-320889/index5.html) post #69, were is mention that kess v2 clone read and write me 7.4.4 My questions are as follow:
I have a galletto V54 clone that read peugeot ME 7.4.4 but only read 64kb of memory. Does the kess can read all memory or it only reads partially as galletto?
Also, I read megane 2 sagem 3000 and clio sport sirius 34 partially with galletto. Have you tried to read/write with kess and also can it read full memory? or is it possible?
Finally, for chip tuning purposes, are those partial reads enough to modify the parameters?

to use the partial reads some times and depends of the software that you use, you would need to paste the 64kb file into a 512kb one(original for that car) and then you can modify, after that you would need to cut the file, in the 64kb file are all the maps that you need for a remap.
I'm not sure about the Kess v2 clone, but normally read whole ECU like a BDM reading 2mega file if the device can't read whole ECU the software show you a big alert adverting you will be a partial read 512kb file minimum, but it's no enough to recover the ECU in a disaster case.
Mind you would need to convert the file read by Kess to BDM format before be write by BDM.

Anyway BDM it is always the best way to read an ECU (if BDM option available)

I didn't check with Kess original, probably you're right, I only try to say, if Kess can't read the whole ECU, a popup appears advertising about it.
It's a pain that can't read full flash by BDM
Well it's life, nothing we can do about.

Sorry, I don't have the clone software installed, I've the official and the version it's the last one 2.05.
Anyway I'll try to have a look installing the 1.89 version that's the clone use.

I think hardware stays the same, just firmware and protocols need updating, though I expect some protection to be added by supplier :smile:, maybe dongle or something.

for those who wondered what the small black box with the led, switch and alligator clips is used for i just did some research:

the big red alligator clip supplies +12v to the Kess main unit on pin 12 of the 25pins male D-connector; +12v is wired trough a 1N4001 diode to the switch which powers the led trough a 2K2 resistor and supplies the blue/white/orange/yellow and red wire with +12v (switched output).

the big black alligator clip supplies GND to the Kess main unit on pin 24 of the male D-connector; it also connects to the LED (negative) and to the gray wire and the small black alligator clip (GND)

the K-line is connected to pin 10 of the male D-connector and to the green wire.

So Basically it uses only 3 pins of the Kess main unit (+12v, GND and K-line) and it outputs 5x switched +12v (blue,white,orange,yellow and red) , 2x GND (gray and small black crocodile clip) and 1x K-line (green).

I hope this info is useful for those who never used this adapter till now.....

Chinese clones rarely read edc15 ECUs , so don't waste your time, use another tool.
I've 2 Chinese clones and both fails reading any edc15xx and some edc16.
Now I'm using the original tool, it's expensive but I'm very happy with it, sometimes is best have original tools or good clones, Chinese are not good.

Look under microscope at the pins on LPC you probably have a short between pins. I experienced the same when I changed LPC.

Yes i had one with 5 pins no soldiered, with the microscope it's easy to find it, once located, just soldier it and works.
