Engine oil appears to be rising i assume its diesel (Focus 1.6 tdci). No water loss
May explain smoke on startup
Any idea's where it could be coming from?
What to to?
Will change oil tommorow, its not long been serviced tbh but i notice it sounds more knocky probably due to diluted oil

Sound about right. Does it have a DPF? Maybe trying to regen? That's why there is excess diesel going into sump.

Is fuel consumption higher the usual?
More smoke then usual?

Not really noticed fuel difference im in between fill ups, but possibly slight increase in smoke
In reply to genius i think your probably right, strange though i tried it on BP ultimate for first time and for 2 days it had a new lease of life seemed very responsive
Now im wondering if the better fuel has distirbed something causing the recent rougher than usual sound, it is definately knocking a lot more, is it possible loosened some carbon which has got stuck??????? thats caused this as it seemed ok before
Turbo also developing slight whistle possibly from diluted oil contamininent
The oil is definately getting higher up dipstick

sound increases because liquid oil effects ((-valve gap correction-) not sure how to say, in English) that gets bigest sound
don't play too long othervaise desel will wash crancshaft bushs and pistons rings
it can be last for this engine

I will get it looked at tomorrow, would i be best draining some oil if they cannot fix it straight away

it is not helps diesel coming from injectors that washing piston ring from oil
you milage too big u cant play tu long mate
when go to garage ask for compression measuring at same time

ok whats bad compression mean?
Will that involve diesel leaking past valves into egine?

not past valves, past pistons rings
bad compression means - rebuild engine - or change engine - or change car :)
but bad compression can be and just valves, valve sealants
compression measuring shows meybe you not vont any repairs more
if their do drain and wet measurement that shows how bad pistons rings mate

Cheers i watched a vid on you tube
Took car on a run this afternoon it changed again and seemed to run better
Its got me thinking has he just overfilled oil at service, as when i checked it before it was warm. It was slightly overfull but i put it down to the oil being warm
Today i checked first thing on a morning its higher than last time, i think before i pay any garage costs i will drop oil in the morning and put a new filter in again. I can check the state of the filter thats in too see if its gunked up much in 2 month and i will make sure the oil is below maximum and see if it rises
Been looking on a few sites, people say the oil will smell of diesel if thats the case, the oil on dipstick does not smell of diesel
I will drop it tommorow and leave some in a glass if its got diesel in it should seperate over a day or 2.
That may save a potentially expensive trip to garage
Anyone know how much oil 1.6 tdci engine takes

You MUST MUST sort this, out if you don't you might find it do this.
1) Turn into a land rover, like so
2) run on it's own juices, it will be worse than this as your oil is 'thin'

3) Might go the other way, could turn into a Jetta - that's a Gulf with a
trunk not a hatch

your glass of oil & diesel will not separate over a few days it's not like oil & water, they stay permanently combined, if you cant smell diesel & are unable to see it as more translucent on the dipstick smear it evenly over a sheet of newspaper screw it up & bun it, with diesel mix it burns much faster & cooler. I would be inclined to change oil regardless, procrastination may cost you your engine or turbo at least! If diesel is getting into oil, its pretty easy to do a leak back test on injectors in situ.

just becarefull but
1) Measure what you drain out
2) Drop it to the MINIMUM level.

If you look at leak back tester kit you'll see it's just bottles, pipes & connectors but tricky to make up diy kit!
Look for price on flea bay!
If your sure your engine is being topped up with diesel get a couple of quotes from your local garages ask for price to do leak back test on injectors in situ this will detemine if one or more of injectors is over fueling

Dropped oil to just over minimum today 1.3 litres collected seriously overfull
Smelt oil no sign of diesel
Cleaned it all up with kitchen roll
Set kitchen roll on fire it ignited and burnt very slowly
Is this sign of no diesel in oil?

Put oil between fingers, what gap you get before oil breaks

That no diesel in oil at oil, of course depending how fast gap breaks but sounds ok for me,
i thing that you must drop car to well mechanic, because anyway something seriously started.
and because we cannot hear what or how strong sound we cannot tell you exactly what wrong

I will keep an eye on it, its actually seems quiter since i took oil out. As been mentioned time will tell i go away in a couple of weeks so im hoping its ok till then and when i come back if its causing any issues i will get it looked at
I have noticed slight whistle from turbo, and other than that it seems ok. I might get turbo changed after hols clean sump and new feed pipes before it ****s up
Before that tho i will get a leak test and compression make sure its ok
anyone know where egr is on these ? i might blank it off if its not already done
