Region blue ray

I've have a disc from USA and it won't play
On my ps3 been reading there is and been reading there isn't a patch to make it region free...is there a patch ...id be wary of d/l something and messing it up.

I thought you just put in and played as ive got jap ps3 but plays all games for across the world no problem
