Had a quick look around here, but this stuff confuses the hell out of me.

My remote fob is failing. Remounted the battery holder twice & packed with high density foam, but it's now getting worse & the micro switches are also becoming a problem.

I only have the one key for the car so looking for a full replacement. Been quoted between ?95 & ?99 from local locksmiths, but I don't have the car pass codes... so looking at another ?25 on top of that.

Is there an easier/cheaper way to get this done?

cheapest option would be to get a standard key copied and then have the remote key repaired.

Then I hope one of them see's this. Next time I go looking it might be worth asking if they're a member. Would rather deal with a member than a complete stranger.

Looked into this. Unconfirmed price from Timpsons (of all places) will copy the key & immobiliser chip for ?35. That's a hell of a lot cheaper than the quotes I've had so far. Might do it in stages, key copied then remote a few weeks/months later.
