Hi guys new to the site so be gentle . I have been told to purchase a Linux box for many reasons that would benefit me. What I would like to know is what is the difference between a dream box and Linux box?? I would like HD with all channels and if possible even 3D. But what would be the best for me to purchase? budget around ?160. Please let me help. and thank you in advance.

You have several choices ranging from 100 quid onwards for dreambox800hd or se which is more to the vu duos which are very popular now. Andy

I'd go with a DreamBOx 800 Series. These are HD compliant boxes and are linux based recievers.

So basically, a DM800HD9SE) is a Linux box and will give you HD and ?D channels.

Depends if you have a fixed dish or motorized. You can watch almost anything but you need something else to watch premium channels  Andy

would be a fixed dish. what I need?

Depends if you want european channels, like 13e and so on. UK is on 28.2e so a fixed dish on that would only give you the satalite at that fixed satalite.

Ie a fixed dish pointing at 28.2e would give you uk channels.
A fixed dish pointing at 19.2e would only give you those channels.

A motor or multi LNB setup could give you more satalites

If you already got a fixed dish up then you would not need anything else other than reciever

without the "extra help" we dont talk about you will only get free to air channels from any satellite you point the dish at, so freesat from 28.2 east

you can easily google freesat to check what channels are available from there

you will have to use google to find out how to get "help" to decode scrambled channels ;)
