If you're having to ask this question, then what you need to do is find a good professional tuner who will sell you a slave tool for example a Kess V2. You will also want VCDS as a minimum to do diag/logging and even then you should get a KTAG aswell for for BDM recovery purposes should something go wrong.

VAG's are well covered my most pro tools

In my opinion, you still need further tools for disaster recovery. BDM for EDC16 and a programmer (+ solering skills) for the older ones
and VCDS (essential). MPPS is a good tool for what it is and should suffice.

You will need to have a plan in place incase something goes wrong, even if it means knowing someone close to hand that can do the job for you for a fee.
Trust me, sh*t happens when you least expect it. What counts is being able to rectify a problem in a timely manner. EVERY decent tuner I know has been in
one of these situations where a recovery job needs doing.

There are several good BDM options available on the market, all depends on your budget. Some tools for example the Magpro2 (optional) and FGTECH Galletto V2 has integrated BDM, so one tool can perform different functions.

One piece of advice M8.....
Read this thread,...5 minutes worth of reading .....:bebored:
http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f173/damaged-turbo-charger-after-remap-edc16-golf-5-140hp-332554/
How much do you think is a bricked ECU...or worse...engine damage?

Need some cash to start this kind of business....
Another bad news is that summer school for tunners is closed.....
Self study, trial & error are the choices if you want to spare some money....

Lol i dont have solder skills.
May i add that this is NOT a + in this business :questionmark:

Dear owner,

this job it is easy as looks like in the very first view.

You have take care about:
- not all EDC15 can be done (read/write) via OBD2 plug
- not all EDC16 can be done (read/write) via OBD2 plug
- your flasher tool needs to be with technical support included - in the very beginning you will need a lot of this!
- you need also recovery tool (BDM, external programmer)
- your moded files have to be done by somebody who knows what needs to the moded
- be prepared for "unlike" behavior of the tool and also of the ECU
- be prepared to have also customers which will like to have different "mods"
- be prepared also for buying spare ECUs

As starting point - I recommend you to:
- buy a tool according to you needs but according to your local market.
- find a tuner who could also give you support for possible issue.

Start to understand the engine - how does it work!

I used to say here that this is a task that demands learn mandarin to be able to read a technical book in latin !!!

You?ll have to be high schooled in the mechanics (to know what you have and can?t do with the engine), will have to learn a lot of things in eletronic (how signal and control are made by an microprocessed eletronic device) to begin understand why Bosch, Marelli, Siemens, etc engineers made every kind of strategy in ECUs...

The hard thing is figure it out WHY in one ECU the things are made diferent than another...
